    About the Analyst Role

    PFM is currently seeking Public Finance Analysts to join PFM’s South region. These roles represent an exciting opportunity to contribute to both existing and new business, providing substantial opportunities for career growth, innovation and meaningful participation within a growing team. PFM's financial advisory services play an integral role in the capital formation process for municipal and not-for-profit bond issuers. PFM’s financial advisors contribute across all phases of the debt financing process, providing independent and expert advice to best position our clients to meet their short- and long-term goals and objectives. 

     

    The Analysts will be based out of PFM's Memphis, TN or Huntsville, AL offices.  We are looking for Analysts to start with the firm prior to the onset of our January 2019 training program.  As such, recent graduates, upcoming graduates, and qualified candidates who have 1 -3 years of related experience are encouraged to apply.

    Responsibilities

    • Learn and develop proficiency with debt structuring concepts and use of DBC
    • Create database/debt overview relating to outstanding debt for existing and prospective clients
    • Create and manage spreadsheets for analyzing financial information, and developing and presenting financing scenarios for clients
    • Contribute to input and review of disclosure documents (official statements) and transaction legal documents for all transactions to which you are assigned
    • Provide information of financial/technical portions, such as calculation of overlapping debt, debt service schedules, refunding plans, etc.
    • Primary responsibility for careful review of all dates, numbers and data
    • Assist with review and presentation of general and economic data, as needed
    • Prepare Power Point presentations for use in rating agency communication, client communication, or marketing purposes
    • Communicate internally relative to ongoing projects, status, training and needs, including initiation of periodic coordination and reprioritization
    • Assist in support and execution of financing transactions
    • Organize, prioritize and schedule your work for each client project and/or financing transaction
    • Organize, track and maintain analyses, reports, and correspondence relating to advise provided to clients and others relating to client projects, in support of project manager
    • Prepare and propose materials, reports and summaries for delivery to clients

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree with a demonstrated track record of academic success (minimum GPA of 3.25 / 4.0 is strongly preferred). AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other national service alumni are encouraged to apply for employment with PFM.

    • Demonstrated interest and expertise in public sector / municipal finance desired, as evidenced by 1-3 years of demonstrated post-graduation work experience, preferably in related field (public finance, consulting, engineering) or project management. Entry-level candidates with strong public finance interest will be considered. 

    • Developed problem solving skills and proactive approach to identifying and addressing challenges

    • Demonstrated analytical and financial modeling experience and background preferred. 

    • Excellent communication skills are a must. Actively listens to others and conveys information, both written and verbal, clearly and concisely. Can make effective presentations and routine communications to smaller audiences.
    • Ability to articulate basis for interest in public sector/municipal finance. Related coursework and/or professional experience (including internships) related to public finance desired.
    • Ability to think and act strategically and independently. Looks at issues affecting the team from a larger, longer-term perspective rather than just day-to-day task-execution. Demonstrates flexibility when approaching complex situations and often uses creative methods/solutions to accomplish goals. Willing to take initiative to pursue own ideas and goals.
    • Insists on accountability of self and others. Understands the relationship between individual and team objectives and the broader company goals, taking ownership where needed. Resolves problems proactively.
    • Willingness to learn and develop with career-long potential in the specialized financial field of public finance, and continually increase knowledge and responsibilities. Having a particular interest in serving our communities and the public sector is a characteristic that is common to our most successful hires.
    • Demonstrates unwavering integrity and instills confidence in others.
    • Strong working knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel (at an advanced level), and PowerPoint.
    • Ability and desire to take on additional responsibilities within the team as needed and/or able.
