    PFM is currently seeking a Relationship Specialist to assist senior team members with new business development and client management for its investment advisory practice in Michigan. The role will be based in our Ann Arbor office, and affords the successful candidate an opportunity to learn about our services from the ground up while working closely with the region's Managing Director and other seasoned professionals.


    This position will focus on marketing the Michigan Liquid Asset Fund Plus (MILAF+), a local government investment pool for public entities.


    Key tasks include:

    • Direct support of senior team members in all aspects of marketing, sales and client management; including but not limited to managing existing client relationships, preparing for and attending meetings,  and ensuring appropriate follow up with clients and targets;
    • Account Development (existing and new clients) - Develop direct customer relationships with key accounts and identify and develop relationships within those accounts with key decision making personnel;
    • Presentations and Networking - Prepare presentations for prospective customers which demonstrate the advantages and capabilities of the company and its’ products and services;
    • Working with our Client Service Group, accounting and trading desk to ensure smooth implementation of new clients and fulfilling the needs of current clients;
    • Develop and expand PFM clients and the short-term fixed-income business while maintaining existing relationships with investment management clients (primarily public agencies); 
    • Coordinate information flow between staff, clients, and PFM project and product managers on a regular basis; 
    • Coordinate preparation of client reports and other written communications; 
    • Present reports and other materials to clients at meetings and governing boards;
    • Analyze various options to come up with optimal investment solutions for our clients; 
    • Create innovative ways of educating clients and prospects on current market events and investment opportunities;
    • Attend government association conferences; and
    • Support other sales, marketing and service activities as appropriate, especially for MILAF+.

    Qualified applicants should have some client-facing work experience, knowledge of the institutional investment market, and experience working in or with public sector and other institutional investors.  Individuals interested in this role should possess strong interpersonal skills, be self-motivated, highly organized and have demonstrated success working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.



    • Bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of related experience, preferably in the public sector/municipal finance, sales, banking, investment management, trust or financial services arenas.
    • Current, active Series 6 & 63 certifications are desired, or candidate must be willing to obtain as a requirement of employment in this role.
    • Knowledge of equity and fixed income funds, short and intermediate term fixed income investments, and money market instruments a plus.

    • Ability to travel 70% of the time (primarily throughout SE Michigan) to meet position requirements.

    Extensive travel within Michigan is a requirement of this position. When not traveling, this person will work from the Ann Arbor, MI office.
